Belle is now working on a line of herbal salves that we are offering through Cordes Farm. The first is a Purple Dead Nettle Salve made from plants grown here in our gardens.
Dead Nettle is an edible plant in the mint family, full of vitamins A and C, it is valued by herbalists for it’s anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties.
Now we wish we had taken before and after pictures, because we tried this stuff on a rash that Tom hadn’t been able to heal on his leg for YEARS that prescription and steroid creams hadn’t fixed. The dead nettle salve took all the itching, swelling and redness out of the rash in two days. After using it for a couple weeks, the rash was completely healed.
It’s great for dry, chapped lips and itchy spots of eczema too. The best part is, it’s all natural and the plants are 100% organically grown here on our farm.
Belle blended purple dead nettle with African shea butter, cold pressed sweet almond oil, beeswax and orange oil then poured it into pretty dark cobalt blue or rich brown glass jars to preserve the nettle’s strength.
There are a couple of other recipes we’re planning for insect repellent and healing burns/insect bites and stings, so be sure to watch for those!
